Test 1 - First impressions 14-Nov-09:
Not all that bad looking on top of my speakers.
I connected the SPT-100's to my system
prior to listening to any music, with the sensitivity set to 92 dB, and crossover set to 12Khz.
For the first listening test I set
all three feet to the bottom, and placed the SPT-100's on top of each speaker as close to the front as possible to align with the
drivers in my speakers. I sat back, and listened (SACD - Pink Floyd - The dark Side of the Moon). Very impressive, the high frequency's
seemed clear, crisp, and precise, but no difference in the soundstage, or bass. I particularly listed to the chimes, and clocks on
track 4 (Time), and tried to place that clear, crisp sound in my mind. I then turned all equipment off, disconnected the SPT-100's,
I listened to the same tracks at the same volume levels. I could not hear any definite change in the sound, it was
still clear, crisp, and precise as when the SPT-100's were connected.
I did some further adjustments, tried various combinations,
and found the best response from the SPT-100's were at the sensitivity of 92 dB, and 15Khz crossover, but with the back foot raising
the unit to be on the same plane as my speakers, and as close to the front of the speakers as possible.
I listened through the week
to different music (CD, SACD, AM, FM,) with the SPT-100's either connected or disconnected most of the time it was difficult, if not
impossible to tell whether they were connected or not, so I thought.
