Test 2 - Blind Test 19-Nov-09:
Music - Steely Dan Guacho - SACD
With the help of my son, and some simple rules this is what we did.
He
would record if the SPT-100's were connected (On) or disconnected (Off), without my knowledge of his decision throughout the process.
The only parameter I requested was that during the test the SPT-100's had to be either connected, or disconnect at least once during
the test. After each test the system was shut down, I went outside (threw the ball for the Dog), he then would call me in when he
was ready for the next session.
I would record if I liked what I was hearing without his knowledge of my decision. What I was looking
for was, is the music enjoyable, a good representation of the high's, mids, and bass, is there a difference in instruments, or voices
on various tracks. All tests on each track were done at the same volume of 16, and in Bypass mode. During the test I was struggling
to hear any major differences, but felt that there were some subtle differences, and I would stick with those impressions in my mind.
Results:
On = SPT-100 connected, Off = SPT-100 disconnected. My ratings +rating = I liked what I heard as described above, -rating is for what
I thought was not as good as the +rating, fairly simple.
Session 1 - On - "+rating".
Session 2 - On - "-rating".
Session 3 - Off -
"+rating".
Session 4 - On - "-rating".
Session 5 - Off - "+rating".
Session 6 - Off - "+rating".
Session 7 - On - "-rating".
Session
8 - Off - "+rating".
Session 9 - On - "-rating".
Session 10 - Off - "+rating".
Interesting results, other than the first session,
I was consistent with what I was hearing on the other nine, I preferred the sound of my own speakers over the SPT-100's connected
to my speakers.
